Eugene Wilder was born in Canandaigua, N.Y. on 14 September 1840. He came to Blackhawk, Colorado in 1863, where he was foreman of the Blackhawk Journal. In Central City he was foreman of the Register. In 1874 he moved to Boulder, where he owned and operated the News, later the News and Courier.
